GFCI Outlet Installation & Repair

GFCI (ground fault circuit interrupter) outlets are designed to prevent electrocution and electrical fires by automatically breaking the circuit if they detect an imbalance. They are especially important for use in areas with water or where there is the potential for electrocution, such as bathrooms and kitchens. All outlets in these areas should be GFCI outlets. 

These outlets have indicator lights that allow you to easily identify any potential issues: 

• A green light indicates that everything is working as it should.
• A red light means the outlet needs attention. Press the TEST and RESET buttons to reset the outlet.
• If there is no light, the outlet does not have power. This may mean that it detected an abnormality in the circuit and tripped, or that it is not receiving power. Press the RESET button to reset the outlet.

If you attempted to reset a GFCI outlet and the indicator light is still off or is flashing red, you should call in a professional. A licensed electrician can check out the outlet and replace or repair it as needed.
